My Week in Brief

Oct. 3 – Debi returns home today.  We’re happy she enjoyed her time in PA, but we’ll surely be glad to have her back.  And we’re thankful to Marjorie Morris, who brought us a not only delicious brownies, but the ice cream to go with them!  Yum!  (PK)

Oct. 4 – I hope we won’t forget about the Philip Initiative.  It is a movement to mobilize professionals to make alternative paths into the world’s least reached areas.  Are you willing to use your career as a way to disciple the nations?  Go to www.scwmu and use the keyword aearch “Philip”.  (PK)

Oct 5 – Oct. 23 is Senior Saints Sunday!  A luncheon (with entertainment I’m sure you will enjoy) will be held in the Merge at noon. Please RSVP by October 17.  You can call the church office or simply put an “L” beside your name on the attendance register.  (PK)

Oct. 5 – My Band of Brothers met today.  We had a vigorous theological debate.  Some people find it uncomfortable to “argue about religion,” but pastors live for it. J  I’m glad for men with whom I can do this.  How about you?  Do you have a small group for fellowship and accountability?  If you need help finding one, please let me help you get connected.  (PK)

Oct. 5 – The lead story in today’s People Sentinel concerned Wren Jansen, three-ear-old granddaughter of Roland and Billie Brant, who is battling leukemia. Remember, we’re hosting a blood drive Sunday from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Then, Page 2 was devoted entirely to Amie Sanders, recovering from breast cancer.  She is scheduled for surgery Monday.  Let’s not cease to prayer for them.  PS – D-NOW also got a very nice write-up.  Thank you, Jonathan Vickery. (PK)

Oct. 5 – Shirley Kaney met with me this afternoon to say she wants to join as a member of FBC.  She’s a believer in Christ who wants to get back to the kind of relationship with Him she had when she was younger.  I think lots of people can identify with that story.  So I’m happy to present her.  (PK)

Oct. 7 – I gather with a group of men on the first and third Friday mornings of each month for encouragement and accountability.  We had a great time of encouragement and study this a.m.  Guys, you need this in your life.  If you want to meet with our group, come Fri. Oct. 21 at 8 a.m. in the Activity Center.  If you can’t make it Fridays, call me and let’s figure out a group that will work for you.  (PK)

Oct. 7 – Believe it or not, it’s time to think about Christmas.  Want to give globally?  Operation Christmas Child delivers shoeboxes filled with gifts to kids all over the world.  Boxes are now available.  Want to give closer to home?  The SCBC collects Christmas packages for 25,000+ prisoners here in SC.  A list of approved items and the correct procedure is available though the church office.  (PK)

Oct. 7 – A huge “Thank You” to all who have responded so quickly and generously as we help evacuees from Hurricane Matthew. As I write, the effects on the US are unknown.  Pray for those affected, and for those who will assist in rebuilding. (PK)

Oct. 8 – Guys, Tuesday at 8 a.m. is our monthly Men’s Breakfast.  We always have a great time!  And you don’t want to miss the C.A.M.O. (Calling All Men Out) Wild Game Dinner at the Schrock Farm on Oct. 30!  (PK)

Oct. 9 – We receive a special offering to help relieve world hunger.  Funds go to ministries we support in India and Uganda, because we know 100% of our offerings go to provide food for the hungry there.  (PK)
